The group's purpose is to promote the heritage and culture of Cheadle and surrounding area, to both residents and visitors of the town. This is primarily achieved through displays and events.

Members of the group contribute a nominal fee of £5 per year.

This fee entitles members to free admission, to at least two CDG organised events, per membership year.
