Action Deafness is a deaf-led UK charity based in Leicester with regional hubs across the Midlands, Durham, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Sussex. Its mission is to ensure Deaf, Deafened, hard of hearing and DeafBlind people can access everyday life equally.

The organisation provides specialist services including BSL interpreting, lipspeaking, remote captioning, personal care and 24/7 support, Deafblind communicator guides, equipment referral, Deaf Awareness and BSL training, plus local community hubs for advice and social connection.

With roots dating back over 120 years, Action Deafness has grown through mergers with Deaf Direct, Walsall Deaf Centre, and most recently DEAFvibe UK. It is governed and largely staffed by Deaf people, reinforcing authentic representation.

The charity delivers tens of thousands of hours of support annually, is regulated by the CQC, and holds ISO 9001 AND 27001 accreditations. Its strengths include lived experience leadership and broad service offer, while challenges remain around funding sustainability and maintaining service quality across expanding regions.
